Hot Tip: Free Monthly Publication Informs and Entertains

I can’t remember how or where I first discovered “BookPage” but I’ve since found that you can get a copy of this free resource in almost any public library or online at (www.bookpage.com). Everything you ever needed to know about anything literary is neatly compiled in this twenty-five to thirty page monthly publication and only books highly recommended by the reviewers are featured.

Self-identified as “America’s Book Review”, Book Page usually contains about eight feature articles like interviews profiling authors such as Jonathan Franzen and Scott Simon and a question and answer piece where authors like Meghan McCain handwrite their responses to questions like “If you could change places with one person for a day who would it be?”.

Other sections worth exploring are the book reviews by topic which can include cooking, audio books, business and children’s books, and top picks for book clubs.

Two other departments to take note of are “Buzz Girl”, which gives you the inside scoop on books that aren’t yet on the shelves but that are almost certain to be bestsellers, and my personal favorite, “Author Enablers”, where Kathi Kamen Goldmark and Sam Barry impart their practical wisdom on potential author’s queries about writing and publishing. You can email your own questions to the pair and they also host a blog which answers questions and updates you on all sorts of things like the best bookstore in Texas!
